INTERNATIONAL TECHNICAL CONSULTANCY AND TÜRKİYE

We take a leading role in technical consultancy to ensure sector coordination and to promote high-quality consultancy services internationally

The technical consultancy sector is a strategic field that significantly contributes to international service exports and enhances cooperation between countries. Our technical consultancy companies have gained momentum, undertaking 166 projects in 2023 and achieving exports of USD 233 million for the year. They are now targeting USD 250 million in exports for 2024. In 2023, Turkish engineering, consultancy, and architecture firms embarked on new projects in Sierra Leone, Luxembourg, and Grenada. They have achieved service exports of approximately USD 3.29 billion through 2,915 projects in 137 countries. Approximately 55 percent of these services were in infrastructure projects, while 45 percent were in superstructure projects.

Our companies have recently excelled in large-scale tenders across the Gulf, Central Asia, and Africa, demonstrating their potential to make a significant impact in the coming years with their competitive edge. Turkish technical consultancy firms, operating in numerous countries from the USA to Japan and Russia to New Zealand, will play an increasingly important role in our country’s service export vision. They will support our economic policy in achieving its medium- and long-term goals by showcasing the quality of Turkish engineers and architects. As the DEİK/International Technical Consultancy (UTM) Business Council, our goal since our establishment under DEİK in 2013 has been to represent the Turkish Technical Consultancy Sector abroad and to promote our members on the international stage and in relevant countries.

We also aim to showcase the capabilities and experience of Turkish companies to foreign private and public decision-makers, demonstrating that they have the competencies to operate globally. We take a leading role in technical consultancy to ensure sector coordination and to promote high-quality consultancy services internationally. To achieve this, our council brings together domestic stakeholders and helps them enhance their institutional capacities in target countries, supported by DEİK’s international business network and the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Türkiye.

Key factors in the Technical Consultancy sector include work experience, adaptability to technology, and technical expertise. Technical consultancy services often require specialization in areas such as large-scale infrastructure projects, construction, and the energy sector. Turkish technical consultancy firms, actively involved in major investments such as airports, highways, hospitals, and infrastructure in our country over the last 20 years, have leveraged their experience into an advantage in foreign markets. They have successfully executed significant projects in various countries around the world. In the dynamic field of technical consultancy, rapid adaptation to technology is essential for staying competitive and relevant.

Incorporating innovative technologies such as new construction techniques, environmental sustainability solutions, digital design, and simulation provides a competitive edge in the industry. For instance, digital design tools like BIM (Building Information Modeling) enable more efficient project management and cost reduction. Our companies, which have gained experience through the use of BIM technology in numerous state investments within our country, are now leveraging this expertise internationally as well. Technical consultancy firms require highly skilled personnel with extensive technical knowledge and experience. Specialized teams in fields such as engineering, architecture, environmental sciences, and energy consultancy play a crucial role in the successful execution of projects.

Companies in the sector must consistently invest in enhancing technical expertise and developing their staff. Therefore, Turkish technical consultancy firms continue to focus on the sustainable development of their personnel, employing both internal training programs and collaborations with universities. Our sector holds significant potential in service exports, which can be fully realized by strengthening factors such as work experience, adaptation to technology, and technical expertise. Countries and companies can gain a competitive advantage in the international market by making strategic investments in these areas. Technical consultancy services play a crucial role in advancing global priorities like infrastructure and sustainable development. With effective planning and support, our sector can significantly enhance its position in the global market. Moreover, expanding our companies’ involvement in international technical consultancy projects can bolster our sector’s global influence. This expansion can also yield positive outcomes in related areas such as contracting and exports of construction materials, creating a multiplier effect.
