GISBIR: THE GLOBAL FACE OF THE TURKISH SHIPBUILDING INDUSTRY

The Turkish Shipbuilders’ Association (GISBIR) has been operating as the sole official representative of the Turkish shipbuilding sector since 1971. Today, with 98 members, GISBIR continues its efforts to strengthen the position of Turkish shipyards in global markets.

The Turkish shipbuilding industry has gained significant momentum in the international arena, with high-tech projects being implemented in recent years. Many innovative projects, such as electric tugboats, hybrid ferries, environmentally friendly ships powered by LNG, and autonomous systems, showcase the engineering capacity and production quality of Turkish shipyards on a global scale. This successful performance was confirmed by new ship exports exceeding $1.9 billion in 2024 and Türkiye’s second place in yacht construction.

The sector offers solutions aligned with Europe’s green transformation goals through energy-efficient and low emission ship projects. This alignment increases international demand while also demonstrating Türkiye’s sustainable production capacity more strongly.

GISBIR continues to support the sector not only through production and export activities but also through digital transformation, vocational training, R&D, and sustainability initiatives. With its “seafaring nation, seafaring country” vision, GISBIR also prioritizes social responsibility initiatives, contributing to various projects that aim to strengthen maritime culture and increase the sector’s social visibility.

GISBIR will steadfastly continue its efforts to enhance the global competitiveness of the Turkish shipbuilding industry and secure stronger worldwide representation for the sector.
