DEIK BECOMES A WINDOW TO THE WORLD FOR THE ECONOMIC PRESS
The Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK) was established in 1986, the year I began my career as an economic GÖRÜŞ | VIEW Dış Ekonomik Ilişkiler Kurulu (DEIK) ekonomi muhabirliğimin başladığı 1986 yılında kuruluyordu. Under the leadership of then Prime Minister Turgut Özal, a period of economic liberalization was beginning. In this regard, it served as a window to the world for the economic press, both through its international contacts and its research.
The economic model implemented also gave a new mission to DEIK’s parent organization, the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB).
DEIK’s contribution to international relations as a soft power through its business diplomacy always attracted the interest of the economic press. Although DEIK’s role in foreign economic relations sometimes came to the fore and sometimes was pushed into the background by political preferences, its 153 business councils play an important role in shaping institutional memory.
